Shelby Raptor release at New York International Auto ShowMonday, April 1, 2013

Category:Car Enthusiast Talk

The New York International Auto Show is currently underway and event goers are catching a glimpse of the latest vehicles that will soon hit the market. Those vying for a truck in should tune in because the Shelby Raptor is a doozy.

The folks over at Shelby American took the Ford SVT Raptor and gave it a little more flavor. Now forcing air through the 2.9 liter supercharger sitting atop the 6.2 liter V8, the Shelby version of the Raptor gets 575 horsepower.

Shelby is releasing limited supply of 100 Shelby Raptors per model year and each will be issued a unique Shelby CSM number and entered into the official registry. The truck will cost $17,995, on top of the stock Ford cost, which starts at $43,603.

Those considering a truck purchase should soup their vehicle up even further and equip it with Husky Liners® mud guards.

John Luft, president of Shelby American, said that the Shelby American line up now has something for everybody.

"We continue to offer the legendary Cobra sports car, along with our GTS, GT350, Super Snake and Shelby 1000 based on the current Ford Mustang and Ford Shelby GT500 vehicles," Luft said. "We took a page out of our history by bringing back Carroll's beloved front wheel drive 'pocket rocket' with the Shelby Focus ST. Since Shelby American's first official appearance was at the New York Auto Show over 50 years ago, it's fitting that our 'biggest and baddest' product unveil of the year, the Shelby Raptor truck, would occur in Manhattan."

New Dodge Durango wows at the show as well
Dodge also released its 2014 Durango at the New York International Auto Show. The seven passenger vehicle added some stylish technological features. The heated steering wheel and second row don't even compare to the Uconnect infotainment system displayed on a 8.4 inch touch screen monitor. Other improvements include, a better fuel economy, new LED exterior lights and a high definition Blu-ray entertainment system.

"When the Durango was first launched in 1998, it represented a breakthrough in power, size and style," said Reid Bigland, president and CEO – Dodge Brand. "Now for 2014, we're upping the ante by making it our most technologically advanced, fuel efficient and dramatically styled Durango ever. With countless class-exclusive features and best-in-class attributes, the new 2014 Durango represents the ultimate no-compromise full-size SUV."

Production of the new Durango is expected to begin during the third quarter of this year.
