Kia, Hyundai see best-ever May salesTuesday, June 4, 2013

The automotive industry continues to see strong demand and two recent monthly reports are testament to that.

Kia Motors American recently reported that it had its best May ever, with 52,327 units sold. The automaker attributed its success to the popularity of the 2014 Cadenza and Forte sedans and the Optima, which led in sales for the 18th consecutive month after 15,368 left dealerships in May. Kia noted that Optima and Sorento CUV sales accounted for 40 percent of total sales last month.

Hyundai also see strong May
Kia was not the only automaker seeing significant gains in May. Hyundai also reported it had a best-ever May sales month, after announcing sale of 68,358 units. According to the automaker, sales were up 2 percent on a year-over-year comparison and up 8 percent over April, which was also a strong sales month.

"May was a high-velocity sales month for us, with the post-Memorial Day frenzy leaving us well positioned for the summer selling season. An across-the-board strengthening of key economic indicators and our strong Assurance Connected Care message drove prospective customers to our showrooms in droves to check out the strongest lineup of cars and CUVs in our history," said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of national sales. "Our core products – Elantra, Sonata and Santa Fe – all performed exceptionally well. We're selling each of these three U.S-built products as fast as we can build them."
