Ford recently announced that it has surpassed a significant milestone in its history.
According to the automaker, it has built the 2 millionth EcoBoost engine. Ford noted that it is building more than 100,000 of the engines each month, and it will likely build 1.2 million in 2013, up more than 60 percent compared to the year before.
"Ford EcoBoost delivers great performance with lower fuel bills, a recipe that is proving incredibly popular with consumers around the world," said Joe Bakaj, vice president, powertrain engineering for Ford. "EcoBoost engines are attracting new customers to the Ford brand every day, and our plants are working hard to keep up with demand."
Demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles has enabled EcoBoost sales to remain so high. According to Ford, the annual fuel bill for a 2009 F-150 2WD with a 5.4-liter V8 engnine is about $3,4000. However, the annual fuel bill for a 2013 F-150 2WD with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is only $3,000. The automaker estimated that a truck owner would save $4,000 on fuel if the vehicle were to last 10 years and drive 150,000 miles.
Ford releases new F-150s
That was not the only recent announcement by Ford. The automaker recently added the 2014 F-150 STC SuperCrew and STX Sport package to its lineup, offering owners added room in their cab, as well as additional options. The F-150 STX has a 3.7-liter V6 engine, which gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg highway and 17 mpg city. In addition, the truck has four doors and additional cab space.
"With the rapidly expanding full-size pickup market continuing to benefit from economic growth and replacement demand, price-conscious buyers are returning looking for an affordable truck with space, capability and style," said Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. "Adding the Ford F-150 STX SuperCrew and the new STX Sport Package to our 2014 lineup gives these truck shoppers more value-oriented F-150 models to consider."
Ford said with the addition of the SuperCrew, truck shoppers now have a full range of cab options to choose from.
Additional accessories for the F-150
Those with an F-150 can protect the exterior of their truck by adding Husky Liners® mud guards. Mud guards not only look great, but they will ensure debris never flies up and damages the exterior to a truck.
