Dads like large pickups and gifts that preserve themFriday, June 14, 2013

Category:Car Enthusiast Talk

TrueCar released its Dads' Top 10 list, highlighting data of what types of vehicles fathers purchased last year.

According to the list, most dads are getting behind the wheel of a truck. The list showed that three choices on the top 10 list were trucks, with the No. 1 pick being the Ford F-150. Other trucks on the list included the Dodge Ram 1500 (No. 3) and the Chevrolet Silverado (No.6).

"Whether they're heading to the soccer field, a playground or a campground, dads need to have the room to get the family and their gear where they're going," said Jesse Toprak, senior analyst for TrueCar. "It's no surprise large trucks are popular, and minivans were also a frequent choice for fathers with two or more kids in the family."

The list should give kids and spouses a good idea of what dad might want for this Father's Day: Something that might add to his truck.

Trucks getting higher resale value
According to NADA Used Car Guide' May edition of Guidelines, auction prices for full-size pickup trucks increased nearly 7 percent in the first four months of this year. The report is highlighting that the trade-in value for trucks is increasing, showing just how important preserving the value of a truck can be.

Those looking for a Father's Day gift can now narrow down their selection to something that pertains to Dad's truck and might preserve the resale value of it.

The report indicated that the trade in value of a 3-year old Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab is $20,540, up 8 percent on a year-over-year comparison.

"The low rate of depreciation for full-size pickups means that consumers will find themselves in a favorable equity position if they trade-in their used pickups for a new or newer pre-owned one," said Jonathan Banks, executive automotive analyst with the NADA Used Car Guide. "There is little evidence to suggest that consumer demand for full-size pickups will diminish in the near-term. We expect prices in the segment to remain above average for the remainder of the year."

If you really want to see dad smile this Father's Day, get him a thoughtful gift that not only has to do with his truck, but has to do with preserving the value of his truck. Husky Liners® mud guards will do just that.
