Car buying to be popular at the end of the summerWednesday, August 21, 2013

Category:Car Enthusiast Talk

Now until the end of the summer is a great time to buy a car, according to a report from Edmunds.com, the premier resource for car shopping and automotive information.

According to the automotive website, the end of summer is the sweet spot for car shoppers looking for the best deal, as dealers are looking to get ride of 2013 model-year cars and make room for the new 2014 vehicles.

"Shoppers typically will find the perfect blend of discounts and selection during this late-August-to-September time period," said Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell. "If they wait much longer, they might be able to find better discounts on a new car, but they'll find that inventory of those vehicles will be limited."

Edmunds.com is advising shoppers to take advantage of the likely discounts on 2013 models toward the end of the summer. According to the data, 2013 models saw discounts of 12.7 percent in July, compared to just 7.7 percent on 2014 vehicles. In addition, Edmunds.com showed that some of the best deals last month were for the Fiat 500 C, Honda Odyssey, Subaru Outback and Cadillac CTS coupe.

Just in time for back-to-school shoppers
