Appealing vehicles sell faster, demand higher prices and have more loyal customersThursday, July 25, 2013

J.D. Power's 2013 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study showed that appealing cars tend to sell faster, demand higher prices and are more likely to encourage buyers to become brand loyal.

"Appealing vehicles are simply good news for both consumers and automakers," said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power. "Even within the same vehicle segment, consumers are willing to spend substantially more on vehicles that they find attractive, provide the performance and utility they are looking for and have well-executed interiors. These vehicles also sell more quickly."

The study, which is in its 18th year, recently updated new technologies and features as a measure of appeal. The appeal study is now based on 77 aspects of a vehicle, scored on a 1,000-point scale. According to the results, owners of vehicles that have an appeal more than 100 points spend at least $1,800 more on their car when compared to owners of vehicles that have an appeal of less than100 points.

The data also indicated that 64 percent of owners of vehicles that scored more than 100 points repurchase the same brand the next time they buy a new vehicle, compared to the 55 percent of owners of the vehicles that scored less than 100 points.

Sargent added that one percentage of loyalty could potentially be worth millions of dollars for an automaker.

What are some appealing vehicles?
Kelley Blue Book recently released its list of the 10 Best Luxury SUVs, highlighting some of the most appealing vehicles in the industry. At the top of the list was the Land Rover 2013 Range Rover.

"For decades, the Range Rover has prowled to the ends of the Earth, growing more luxurious with each generation," said Jack Nerad, executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book's "Combining opulent amenities with extreme capability, the all-new-for-2013 version is the best Range Rover yet."

After the Range Rover came the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL, Porsche Cayenne, Lexus RX, Infiniti JX, Audi Q5, Acura RDX, BMW X1, Volvo XC60 and Cadillac Escalade ESV.
