As most of you know, over the past decade I have been pursuing my PHD in psychiatry at Carnegie Mellon University. Today I’m proud to announce that I have decided to drop out of college and start helping others with my brand new advice column “Dear Magnus”. Every week I will be offering advice to the public, free of charge. Questions can be posted via my facebook timeline, OR you can send me a private facebook message if you’d like to remain anonymous. Send me your questions, concerns, problems, issues, baggage and I will offer you great advice.
To kick things off, here is an example:
Last week my boyfriend asked me to marry him, but I don’t really like him. When he proposed he surprised me with a new Nissan Sentra that had a giant bow with the ring taped to the steering wheel. He is fairly wealthy and is quite a bit older than I am. What should I do?”
If you don’t like your boyfriend then I think you’ve answered your own question. You certainly don’t want to spend the rest of your life with someone you don’t like. As for the Nissan Sentra, from what I’ve read they’re very reliable cars with good fuel economy, although Car and Driver rates them at just 3.5 stars… might be something to think about. It IS the thought that counts and clearly your boyfriend was trying to do something nice for you. I would suggest that you keep the car but gently decline your boyfriend’s offer of marriage. Who knows, down the road he may offer you a better car and by then you may grow to like him. My 2 cents.
All the best,
