Summit Mud Guards, front and rear -

Husky finally made these available after months of waiting and I am grateful for that. The mud guards are custom fit to the Summit which has plastic trim down low that makes them different from the other Grand Cherokee models, and makes them even more in need of mud guards - I live on a dirt road and I've noticed too many stone chips already.
The mud guards fit well over all, but with some issues -
- The front ones were not molded exactly right and were pushed out of the correct alignment by part of the plastic mud guard interfering with part of the trim. I fixed this by heating the mud guard with a heat lamp and pushing hard by hand to distort the mud guard out of the way. This worked pretty well without causing any other issues.
- All the mud guard mounting screws go into plastic trim, not metal body or frame (not the fault of Husky) which is less than desirable. The fasteners provided are pretty good but too many rely on simply screwing into a hole you drill through the plastic trim; I was not happy with this and went to considerable lengths to remove enough trim to get access to the rear of the trim to put 'nuts' on more of the self tapping screws. This was a good deal of work and I would not recommend it to all, but I am much happier with the result. I also improved the mounting of the plastic trim which was somewhat loose.
- Removing the wheels is pretty much essential and not too hard to do one at a time.
- I would have preferred it if the mud guards were a little larger to provide a bit more protection but not everyone would want that.

The mud guards look good and I am happy with them. We will have to see how well they survive the winter.
Not enough thought went into the design. -

I liked the mud guards except the back where the snow and road debris would collect. That area would be hard to clean. I am in the process of returning them.

Thank you for your review and thank you for choosing Husky Liner products! The mud guards we manufacture are custom molded to fit your specific vehicle. The shape of the back side of the mud guard does mirror that of the front. You are correct that snow and slush will build up on the back surface of the mud guards—just as it builds up on the fenders of the vehicle. The mud guards will protect the painted surfaces and will shed the ice/slush just like the other surfaces do. A tap with your foot would expedite the shedding process. Please do call us at 800-344-8759 or e-mail me at sbower@huskyliners.com with any further questions or comments.

Once they were installed, they are great! I had to remove the rear tires to install, and buy different hardware. The included screw clips did not extend far enough to reach the intended mounting holes. Luckily, ACE hardware had the correct hardware.

Purchased for front & rear mud flaps for my new Ford Explorer and installed them the other day. Fronts go on a little easier because there is clearance there. Rear flaps a little trickier. You might have to take the tire off to drill the third hole needed. The other two use factory holes which are exposed when you remove the factory hardware which can be a bit difficult. My only complaint is the little slide on brackets
included are silver and can show a bit which looks bad so i painted mine black as they should be.

Front guards did not fit well, bottom hole did not line up with truck.

They were easy to attach. I was worried about ground clearance so I trimmed an inch off with a utility knife.

Steve Bower, Engineering Manager

Thank you for your reply! We are not aware of any inference issues related to the length of the Envoy mud guards during normal use. If you were towing a heavy load, the ground clearance would be lessened. Entering a driveway with a steep angle can also lead to the mud guards rubbing the ground.

I received my mudflaps incredibly fast. They look good. My only critical comment is they were somewhat difficult to install.
Good function but strange looks. -

Overall pleased with front guards. Only negatives are moulded depression in middle of flap, For nerf bar to fit?. and drilling required. Only one factory fastener lines up for mounting. I also purchased rear flaps which has same mounting scenario. Purchased these guards for mud, snow, ice protection.

Steve Bower, Engineering Manager

Thank you for your review and thank you for choosing Husky Liner products! You are correct in noting that this mud guard does accommodate the factory running board and it does include an inward indention because of this. The factory running board is very common, but not all LT models have it. The mud guards do use the two factory “fastener” located in the mounting area. One mounting location has a screw and the other a “push in” style fastener. The push in fastener will not secure the mud guard in place securely so we call for its removal and provide a screw and u-clip to replace it. The two remaining locations do require drilling and use of a provided screws. Our installation methods follow right along with those of the OEM’s as drilling a hole in the fender is the most secure method of attaching a mud guard.

Instructions were written for another product. Follow the holes in the flap, not the directions. The clear fender tape that is supposed to protect the paint sucks in the worst way. I guess we will see in time.
