F.A.Q. Frequently
Asked Questions.
We are sure that in the
presentation and/or discussions with customers, the following questions
could be asked of you. We have assembled these questions in a F.A.Q. (Frequently
Asked Questions) format, in hopes that our customers will better understand
our exceptionally unique Husky Custom Molded & Logo-ReadyTM/SS
Series Mud Guards that we now manufacture.
Custom Molded Mud Guards
Q. Who offers the most applications when it comes to custom
molded mud guards?
A. Winfield Consumer Products. Currently we offer custom molded front,
rear, and rear dually mud guards. for over 60 different pickups &
SUV applications (in 80 part numbers) dating back to 1988. Our universal
mud guards fit a vast variety of many other vehicles not listed in our
custom molded applications. Our plans are to continually develop new applications.
Q. What are the benefits
of the Husky custom molded mud guards?
A. Our mud guards are custom molded to exactly fit your specific truck
or SUV. They help protect your vehicle from rock chips and help keep it
clean from mud and tar. The front units work very well to keep mud and
slush off of the factory running boards. These mud guards are one of the
least expensive ways to keep your vehicle looking great while still protecting
the paint.
Q. Do I need any special
tools?
A. Some standard tools are required. 1/8” drill bit/Drill, Center
punch/Hammer, Short Phillips screwdriver or bit attachment, and a marking
utensil (fine tip marker, grease pencil, etc.).
Q. Are these mud guards
custom molded?
A. Yes. Our mud guards are custom molded to fit each particular vehicle
application, just as many of our other products are. We also make universal
fit mud guards, which is a flat mud guard for vehicles not listed in our
applications as custom molded. Most of our mud guards are injected molded
with a few applications that are thermoformed.
Q. How far down do they
hang below the body of the vehicle?
A. Typically these mud guards run 7-8” down from the bottom of the
wheel well, but it depends on the ground clearance of a vehicle. (i.e.)
a dually mud guard is longer than a smaller vehicle like a Trailblazer
or an Escape.
Q. Does Husky offer mud
guards for dually trucks?
A. Yes. Husky is one of the few companies out there that makes a custom
molded dually mud guard. These are designed to custom fit the contours
of the dually fender.
Q. Do our mud guards work
with running boards?
A. Yes, as our applications state, if there is a different application
necessary for running boards, we will list it. If there is no “notation”
about running boards in the listing, the mud guard will work with the
factory running boards.
Q. Do our mud guards work
with aftermarket running boards and fender flares?
A. We have not run into many factory running boards that our mud guards
will not accommodate. It may require that you order the mud guards and
check it, or visit your local Husky Retailer and have them check the fit
with a stocked part. Note that the retailer may not have all mud guards
that we list in stock. We have not fitted our mud guards to many aftermarket
flares, but unless they are copies of the OEM flare, our mud guards will
not fit. Our universal mud guards will work in these situations.
Q. I don’t see my
vehicle listed, do you have an application?
A. We may, and it just might not be listed in the catalog you have. Check
our web site, http://www.huskyliners.com
or give us a call at 1-800-344-8759 and we can get you that information.
Our universal fit mud guards come in a large and medium size and will
fit applications that we do not cover. Medium Size Vehicles (Guard Size
9-9.75” x 15.75”). Large Size Vehicles (Guard Size 11-11.75”
x 17.63”).
Q. I am not sure if my
vehicle has a flare, how can I tell?
A. A flare is an addition to the vehicle that surrounds the tire opening.
It “widens” the wheel opening and is typically more decorative
than functional. Sometimes it is painted to match the vehicle, other times
it is constructed of a molded plastic. If the area that the mud guard
will match up to is not metal, you likely have a flare. Check out our
web site, http://www.huskyliners.com
and you will find photos of vehicles with and without flares.
Q. Do all kits have the
3MTM paint protection film, and should I use it?
A. Not all kits have paint protection film. If the mud guard mounts to
a plastic surface (a non-painted flare for example) or if the mud guard
does not wrap around the fender opening, we do not include the film. If
the film is included in your kit, you should use it as it will protect
your paint from being scuffed by the small particles of dirt/debris that
can get between the mud guard and the painted surface of the vehicle.
Q. Does installation require
drilling?
A. In most cases we design the mud guards to use the factory drilled holes
on the vehicle, but in some cases it may require you to drill additional
holes.
Q. Can the mud guards
be painted?
A. Yes, they can be painted by following a few simple paint-prep instructions.
First, clean the mud guard with a soap and water solution to remove dirt
and other contaminates. Next, sand the painting surface with 320 grit
sand paper. Then, apply a coating of flexible primer-adhesion promoter
and apply a flexible paint as directed by the paint manufacturer.
Q. Do these mud guards
work with oversized wheels and tires?
A. Husky Liners® Mud Guards are designed to
fit vehicles equipped with most factory wheel/tire packages. Check to
make sure your mud guards do not interfere with tire turning clearance.
We urge owners to not operate vehicles with interference as damage may
occur.
