F.A.Q. Frequently
Asked Questions.
We are sure
that in your presentations to distributors, dealerships and their customers,
the following questions have been asked of you. We have assembled these
questions in a F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions) format, in hopes that
your prospects and their customers will better understand Winfield Consumer
Products and the exceptionally unique product that we manufacture.
Q. Who is Winfield Consumer Products?
A. Most people, in the automotive aftermarket, are more familiar with
us by the trade name "HUSKY LINERS®",
a carpet protection product we developed and have been manufacturing for
over fifteen years. Our Husky Liners‚ are the leading floor and
cargo liner product in the truck and SUV accessory market.
Winfield Consumer Products (WCP) is an ISO 9001-1994 & QS-9000 certified
company operating from a new facility in Winfield, Kansas. We occupy a
state-of-art, superbly equipped office and production facility totaling
168,000 square feet and over 100 employees. We currently have two rotary
and six double-end machines that give us sixteen stations on which to
run vacuum molding dies. We also have two extrusion machines, which will
run plastic sheet up to seventy-seven inches wide.
In 1998, we were listed as number 445 in the "Inc." magazine’s
top 500 fastest growing private companies in 1997 with a 706% sales growth
between 1993 and 1997. Quality, product development, and customer service
are the three areas where WCP excels.
Q. What does Winfield
Consumer Products manufacture for the Aftermarket?
A. Our number one product is the Husky Liners®‚ which consist
of: front floor liners, second seat floor liners, third seat floor liners,
cargo liners and center hump liners for most pickups, SUVs and even selected
cars. We also manufacture front and back seat, heavy duty floor mats for
cars, trucks and SUVs and custom molded mud guards to fit trucks and SUVs
to our product line.
In 2000, we acquired J-MAC a manufacturer of aluminum truck accessories
such as: flo-thru tailgates, sunshades, and contractor racks. As well
as purchasing the assets of the Northern Automotive Systems’ Aftermarket
Division. This division produced decorative interior trim systems for
pickups and SUVs, commonly referred to as molded dash kits. Some of our
most recent product developments include 3D Molded Carpeted Floor &
Cargo Liners for trucks and SUVs, plus our new Stainless Insert Flat Mud
Guards. As you can see by our product lines, our expertise is very heavy
into plastics as well as powder-coated aluminum products.
Q. What OEM vehicles does
Winfield Consumer Products provide interior floor and cargo liners for?
A. We currently supply Mitsubushi Motor Sales with cargo liners.
Q. What does Winfield
Consumer Products bring to the OEMs and the Aftermarket?
A. Quality through Technology. We feel confident that a review of our
resources will convince you of Winfield Consumer Products’ right
to its claim as the aftermarket leader in floor and cargo liners. As a
certified ISO-9001-1994 & QS-9000 company, our capabilities are:
• Tool design and tool building.
• CAD-CAM and CAD DATA technology.
• Fero Arm.
• Quality control programs.
• Quality engineering that utilizes SPC and quality circles.
• Vertically integrated to do the widest range of liner manufacturing
by any one supplier in the aftermarket.
• Fully-equipped testing for control of product and process consistency.
Our in-house engineering includes our President, who was a plastics project
engineer before starting WPC over seventeen years ago, and a staff of
six qualified plastic engineers.
Q. What is PolyduratheneTM
and why is it the best?
A. Winfield Consumer Products’ innovative engineering team developed
a rubberized thermo-plastic material that resulted in a liner material
that is guaranteed not to crack or break. This patented material is called
"PolyduratheneTM". PolyduratheneTM
is a superior material for automotive interior floor and rear cargo liners.
A molded floor and rear cargo liner product line that transcends the quality
of ordinary aftermarket liners. PolyduratheneTM
combined with the "SPiN" system (Sta-Put in place Nibs) technology
created a unique custom look and fit that eliminates the typical look
of other aftermarket liners.
Q. What type of testing
does Winfield Consumer Products perform on their floor and cargo liners?
A. WCP tests its liners for both low wear and high wear interior applications.
Low wear application is a part of the liner that will not be in contact
by the customer on a continual basis, such as the area behind the brake
and gas pedal. A high wear application is a part of the liner that is
in contact continually, such as the heel area in front of the gas and
brake pedal.
Some of the tests (done by an independent laboratory) consist of the following:
• Wear Resistance, window fogging ASTM D5393.
• Water Resistance ASTM D570.
• Chemical Resistance SAE J2016 to agents like brake fluid, engine
oil, petrol, grease, battery acid and car wax.
• Heat Cycle Test, Light Exposure Resistance ASTM 1499.
• Cold Impact Resistance ASTM D746 tested from -40¾C to -75¾C.
• Flammability and Odor.
Husky Liners® also meet all applicable Federal
Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
Q. Besides PolyduratheneTM,
what is the major difference between Winfield Consumer Products’
Husky Liners® and other liner companies?
A. There are a number of differences that sets the Husky Liners®
apart from the competition. They are as follows:
• Husky Liners® "SPiN"
system (Sta-Put in place Nibs) covers the entire back (that’s 100%
coverage) of each front, second, and third seat liner...to limit slipping
through all weather extremes. Certified laboratory tests and field-testing
have proven its durability. The 100% coverage of the Sta-Put in place
Nibs eliminates two of the problems of typical competitors’ liners–constantly
repositioning the liner and the use of velcro strips for adhesion.
• Sophisticated tooling allows for an OEM-equivalent fit. The liners
conform perfectly to the vehicle’s natural design forms and lines.
A new patent pending feature is a flange width that is actually molded
into the perimeter of the liner. This assures that finished edges are
trimmed to match up with the vehicle surfaces, leaving no unfinished edges
and provides additional structural integrity in the sidewalls of the liners.
• The depth of coverage. Husky Liners®
not only offers just a rear cargo liner in its program, but offers front
floor liners, center hump liners, second seat floor liners, and third
seat floor liners for the widest variety of vehicle application.
Q. How do I deal with
the question, "it’s not carpeted"?
A. Husky Liners® were designed to protect carpet–not
be carpet. Husky Liners® were designed to retain
water, mud and snow, by not allowing them to be absorbed into and/or to
stain the carpeted surface.
Q. Does Winfield Consumer
Products offer carpeted liners?
A. Yes, we now do. We have been in the business of selling molded rubberized
thermo-plastic liners for many years and there has recently been a demand
for us to develop a molded carpeted liner. With the introduction of Husky
3D Carpeted Floor and Cargo Liners we can now fill this niche market.
For more information on 3D Carpeted Liners see their seperate F.A.Q. sheets.
Q. What problems can I
have with other brands of carpeted liners?
A. With brands other than Husky 3D Carpeted Liners, their carpeted surfaces
can retain stains such as; beverages, grease and tar. The PolyduratheneTM
material used by Husky Liners® allows for quick
and easy cleanup. Husky 3D Carpeted Liners are pretreated for stain resistant
and manufacturered with quality material to prevent wear.
Q. Who offers the most
applications when it comes to floor and cargo liners?
A. Winfield Consumers Products. Currently we offer front seat, center
hump, second seat, third seat and cargo liners for most popular domestic
and foreign pickups, sport-utility vehicles and selected car applications
some dating back as far as 1971.
Q. Why does Winfield Consumer
Products use Shadow layouts with its instructions?
A. Shadow layouts were designed and offered as a part of our instruction
sheet to show the unique custom-fit design of each floor, center hump,
second seat, and rear cargo liner. These shadows will give a very detailed
picture of unique features found within the coverage area such as cargo
hook locations, third seat access areas, and other options unique to the
customer’s vehicle. We also offer shadow sheets for our Premium
Molded Dash Systems, that has a seperate set of FAQs.
Q. Do I need any special
tools?
A. No. In most cases, the Husky Liners® come
complete for easy installation. Some applications have unique features
such as rear cargo floor hooks and third seat access points. These visual
shadow instructions allow the customer to determine whether they wish
to trim these out or leave uncut as it came from the factory. A heavy
shear or utility knife can be used. These shadows will also show differences
in seat styles and certain options within an application that may require
some trimming to achieve that ultimate fit.
Q. How long does it take
to do a typical installation?
A. Husky Liners® are custom molded to fit your
particular vehicle–exactly. Installation time, in most cases, is
only a matter of minutes. A typical installation time for a floor, center
hump, second seat or cargo liner that requires some trimming is about
10 minutes.
Q. How can I get my Husky
Liners® to lay flat?
A. Upon removal from the box, your liner will not completely unroll and
lay flat. This is normal and only temporary. Just place the liner on the
floor or even in the back of your vehicle with a weight in each corner
(a book works well). After about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the temperature,
your liner will remain flat. In colder climates or cooler days, this "relaxing"
may take longer. Moving the liner to a heated and/or warmer area will
accelerate the "relaxing" process. Floor liners and some second
seat liners are shipped flat in their boxes and do not require unrolling.
Q. Why are the second
seat floor liners 2-pieces in most applications?
A. This is a very good question with a very good reason. Husky Liners®
were designed to protect the vehicle’s carpet from the harsh elements
like mud, snow and water. It is easier to remove a 2-piece second seat
floor liner via each respective passenger-side door, then to drag a 1-piece
liner all the way across the vehicle with the chance of the harsh elements
coming in contact with the area you are trying to protect. If you notice
in the instructions that are included with the second seat floor liner,
the left liner is designed to overlap the right liner. This feature assures
adequate carpet protection with ease of cleaning.
Q. Do I need to use Velcro®
or 3M Scotchmate® when I install the cargo liners?
A. No. Unlike nylon or heavy vinyl liners manufactured by some competitors
that require either Velcro® or 3M Scotchmate®
to attach the rear cargo liner to the sides and/or floor of the vehicle
for installation, you do not need them to install Husky Liners®.
The sturdy side-walls and the custom fit will prevent any movement of
the rear cargo liner.
Q. Can I use Armorall®
or a similar protectant on the surface as a cleaner?
A. No. The use of Armor All®, Son-of-a-Gun®
or similar protectants is highly discouraged as these products make the
liner slick. Your liner is made from engineering resin that is lightweight
and extremely tough and durable. The easiest way to clean your liner is
with a damp cloth or sponge. If using a cleaner, 409®
or Glass Plus® works well. Husky Liners®
unique raised diamond-tread pattern make cleaning the surface much easier
then the competitive liners that use small depressions that can retain
residue in the corners of these depressions.
Q. What are the most popular
applications for Husky Liners®?
A. Surprisingly, it is pretty evenly split with a third in floor liners,
a third in second seat floor liners and a third in rear cargo liners.
Ford and General Motors lead the way with their Expeditions and Suburbans
respectively, and then their trucks.
Q. What is the most popular
color?
A. Again, surprising it is pretty evenly spread among the 3 colors (black,
grey and tan) with each color doing about a third. Some OEMs are only
offering interior trim packages in grey or tan on their trucks and SUVs
and these vary by model.
Q. What is your warranty?
A. Limited Lifetime Warranty. Winfield Consumer Products prides itself
in having one of the lowest warranty/defective rates in the aftermarket
with its Husky Liners®. Our Limited Lifetime
Warranty is as follows:

Liners® products that they will not break or
