Hunting season kicks off in Montana

Friday, August 30, 2013

The hunting season is set to kick off in Montana. Upland game birds, which include grouse and turkey, can be hunted beginning Sept. 1; bighorn sheep archery season starts Sept. 5; and archery season for deer, elk, antelope, black bears, wolves and mountain lions begins Sept. 7. Hunters are reminded to observe safe fire practices early this season.

"Hunters have an especially big responsibility to be fire conscious," said Ron Aasheim, spokesman for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks in Helena.

In addition to watching out for forest fires, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks reminds hunters to always carry bear spray, always let someone know where you are going, and quickly and quietly get harvested big game out of the woods.

Hunters are also reminded to get their vehicles well-equipped for the upcoming season. Aside from making sure the vehicle is up-to-date on its service, vehicle accessories are available to ensure a hunter doesn't come home with a beaten-up ride. Husky Liners® mud guards will ensure an exterior doesn't get dinged when a truck is off-road, and floor mats will keep an interior safe from mud and stains.
